Why Are We As a Society so Rude?

Why are we as a society so rude?
It's a serious national problem that has been going on for way too long! What has happened to common courtesy? Parking spot thieves, people who answer their cell phones anytime and anywhere…Americans are fed up! Being rude can actually hurt our quality of life. It’s quite sad, that we kind of live in a microwave society. Buy now, pay later. We want the children to be the best. Push your way through life. Push and shove if you want to reach the top. Walk over people.
Do you agree or disagree with this sentiment? Explain the reasons why.

I agree with this statement completley. People are so rude because they could care less about anyone else but themselves. A recent exapmple is of the guy who got trampled at wal-mart. Someone knocked him down and no one cared about him so they just steped all over him until the guy died.

I disagree with this sentiment. America has become a place that carries the weak far too often. Why should the strong not be rewarded? If you're more capable than others well good for you. You should work to get to the top, not just have it handed to you. The biggest problem in America is that people are just waiting for handouts. Our future ruler Obama will only worsen this.

Americans have become very rude. It is actually pathetic, some people act like they are the only people in the world who matter. There are still some people who are polite and look out for the well being of others as well as themselves; those are the people who will hold the door open for the person behind them, or even just say please and thank you. It has become more difficult to be polite because it seems as if everyone is rude and you're the only one who is polite, and when people are rude to you it is dificult not be rude right back. I just don't understand why people dont realize what they are doing. If everyone took the extra step to be polite at least a few times a day i think people would be less rude and stressed.

I believe that we, as a society are continualsly so rude and continue to engage in rude actions and decisions because that is how we are raised and forced to be. Being rude, and always pushing to get what you want is the way our life plays out and the only way for us today in this society to get what we want in life. I believe that we as a society must collectivly change and continue this change because if single people change then no real change will occur, and that person will fail. Its up to us as a society to change or else this problem of rudeness will never be solved.

I think society has gotten out of hand in terms of the way people treat other people. Everyone just looks out for themselves and does what ever they can to get to the top. If people were just nicer and helped others out, the world would be a much better place. What happened at Walmart is completely absurd. The fact that some innocent worker had to die because of a bunch of greedy animals is rediculous. I do not understand how people can be so selfish and desperate that they are willing to sacrafice a human life.

I somewhat agree with this statement. Of course we must think about the normal and rational people out there who actually do exist. These people live a quality life with respect for others in the hope for respect in return; and these are the people I like to accompany myself with. For all those people who have no respect for others and are above and beyond the selfish level, they need some serious self-evaluation. And yes, there are many of them out there.

I think that America should change its attitude. Many Americans are focused mainly on themselves. Americans are always thinking about what they can do to help themselves. I think that the incident at Wal-Mart has shown what a wrong direction we have gone in, that people would trample over a human being just to be first in the store. I think that Americas general idea about Christmas shows how distorted our values have become. The Holiday of Christmas which is supposed to be a time of good will toward your fellow man now is all about material goods and finding the best deal on something.

The reason we are so rude in society is because we all have different views on things. Its not that we are rude, but its what people take our everyday doings as. For instance, maybe some people feel it is ok to answer a phone in a resturaunt. I'm not saying I agree with that but I'm trying to show how some people just have different opinions and we just need to learn how to get along.

The bottom line is that a majority of our society is self-centered. People do whatever they want to do only if it benefits them. People pushing in lines for christmas gifts is ridiculous. Its upsetting when all you hear on the news is bad things happening in our community instead of good news or stories. To make America better, we have to worry less on changing each other but to change ourselves and become better human beings.

Recently the terms 'walking over people' and 'taking them down' has turned literal. A Walmart greeter was killed from crazy shoppers trampling him and a woman had a miscarriage for having too many people hit her in the stomach during a Black Friday rush. Last period in Short Lit we watched a clip from 60 minutes about David Cash and how he was there when his friend raped and murdered a 7 year old girl. This is insanity, it is so unethical and irrational. How do people not realize how immature and stupid their actions are? Not holding the door for someone who is a few feet behind you is one thing, but Americans have taken this to a whole new extreme. I have no idea why society has become so rude, but it is a major issue. All it takes is for each person to do their own part, hold a door open, say thank you, and just be an overall kind human being.

I strongly agree with this statement. America has begun to think soley of themselves instead of thinking about the wellbeing of others around them. Everyone is always in such a rush that we forget the simple things like please and thank you. How many times have you held a door for someone and they have not said thank you because they seem to be in such a rush and going somewhere. Everyone needs to slow down and realize how they are acting before it is too late.

It is terrible to see how many people are so rude and selfish. So many people only care about themselves and have no common courtesy at all. It is sad that so many people have such issues with being kind just because they think that they are better than everyone else. There are only a few people in this world who care about others besides themselves and those are the people who will be rewarded in the end.

I disagree with this sentiment because a lot of people in our society are respectful, kind, and polite but we don't here about those people as much. I think that our society seems rude becasuse more rude people are in the news than there are polte, respectful and helpful people. For example, most people heard a bout how the guy in walmart got trampled, but no one every says anything if a kid helps an elderly person with their groceries or how a tall person got somethnig of the top shelf in a store for a short person. People in our society are kind and polite every day with many little things that no one talks about.

I completely agree with this sentiment. People are only human and some are weaker than others, this doesn't mean that they should be penalized or walked all over, but be treated like an equal with respect because that's what our "democratic" society is suppose to boil down to anyway, isn't it? We have become so rude as a society because there are no consequences to our rudeness, therefore people aren't getting in trouble which causes them to think nothing is wrong with what they're doing. However, that's where they're wrong. There's no one person to blame for this rudeness factor; it's, in fact, many individuals, most Americans are rude. They should have common sense, most lack it, but it should be there and when it's not people are inconsiderate and only think about themselves. I think this is a serious problem because people are treated so disrespectfully, and in our society, we're just suppose to "suck it up." But what about those who cannot do this, they are left with not only hurt feelings, but sometimes much larger issues. If this isn't corrected, societies quality and the children of tomorrow won't be the best they can be. If this continues to pass on from generation to generation, society will nowhere near their highest potential.

I think that this statement is unfortunately very accurate. America is built on the dream that working hard in this nation will bring you success and happiness. However, this dream has been warped so that people will do whatever they can get away with to get rich. This includes lying, cheating, and stealing, but what happened to the hard work? In the business world, corporations do whatever they can to make the most money even if it includes pay cuts, layoffs, and not to mention cheating every penny out of the consumer. In our competitive society, people don't think about others because they simply don't care, they only want to do what's best for themselves.

I completely disagree with this sentiment and think it's a very pessimistic way to look at our society. For every rude occurrence stated there is a kind act not listed, even if it's something as small as someone holding the door open for you. If you think American society is rude then you’re being greedy and ignorant. People do nice things all the time and if your only going to reminisce on the rude incidences then you are just adding to the problem. By the way, pushing and shoving is not the only way to get to the top. You can not go to college and stay unemployed. This way Prime Minister Barrack Hussein Obama will take you there using hard working, tax payers money... Raul!

People have become so rude because America has become so greedy. When people start only caring about themselves, they don't go out of their way to make sure they are meeting the standards of what people think is acceptable or not.

Oh, and for what Kyle and Mike said... that guy at Walmart was trying to make it to the top by having a job and working to support himself. He lost that chance because of others. The unborm baby who was murdered because people had hit her mothers stomach too many times during a Black Friday frenzy wasn't even given a chance to take a breath. Granted, Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest is legit, but people are just down right rude and only care about themselves. I believe that if you are hard working you should be rewarded, but that doesn't mean you need to completely forget about everyone else. It's just common courtesy, its just ethics...

I agree that society has gotten extremely rude. People just don’t have any common courtesy and only work towards there own selfish needs. All too often I hold a door open for someone and never even receive a small gesture of appreciation, much less a “thank you”. And just last week I was in a movie while someone was pointing a laser pointer at the screen. I mean that just ruins the movie experience, because ill find my attention drawn away from the movie and more to finding the jerk who has the laser pointer. I think that things on T.V. might influence people and give them the attitudes that they have. I also think that our society needs to learn something about morals.

Although society can be rude, I think this statement is an unconstructive way of looking at it. This opinion completely degrades society. Not everyone is rude. Granted there are many who do not have manners, but maybe we should teach our future generations better. Your upbringing has a lot to do with the way you act.
There are just as many polite people in our society as there are rude people, if not more. Tell me you've never heard someone say "please" or "thank you" in public, or someone has never held a door for you. Tell me that someone has never picked something up that you dropped.
This sentiment is an extremely pessimistic view of our society.

I Disagree. as the most powerful nation the world has ever seen, the rest of the world tends to think of us as rude and condesending only because were better than they are. As a nation we have built up the right to be kind of cocky. There may be rude people but as a society we dont promote backstabbing and terrorism and hurting others... that sounds more like alqueda. So please, before you point your finger and blamse society, take a look in the mirror, maybe your the jackass, not society.

I agree with this statement. I don't know where or how it began but our society has become extremely rude and discourteous. I think people can still work there way to the top and be successful while being courteous to others. However, I don’t know if this is a pessimistic way to look at it or not, but I don’t believe we will ever be able to become a courteous society. It would involve the effort of everyone and I highly doubt everyone would want a change.

oh and as for the whole guy trampled at wallmart... its a horrible thing and i would never try to justify what happend to him but the people who killed him werent being rude, they were being ignorant. i HIGHLY doubt people looked at him and said screw it i dont care about him, no. Most of the people didnt know they were even killing him due to the frenzy. so yeah what happend was monsterous but it wasnt rude.

Braden said...

Everyone is society is rude. I am, you are, your mother is, and so is your dog. The only difference is that some people are more rude, stubbborn, self-centered, racist and ignorant than others. Its very unfortunate that we live in such an educated society that we must deal with this but we have no choice. The only changes we can make are changes in what we do because we have no control over others.

Hey yea how about we all just stop caring about each other and stop showing compassion in society. Itll be a great thing when we have to pass by all of those starving families on our way to work. Let everyone starve so that i can get that new mercedez i wanted itll definitley show our power to the world when we cant even give take decent care of our own citizens. Cant work because of an injury? not my problem. Dad cant get a job? guess youll have to go steal. This way of thinking is the way societies fail. Look at the French aristocrats for example. They lived the good life while others starved in their streets and what happened? Oh yeah it led to the bloodiest rebellion in history. the gap between rich and poor cannot be so extreme in a developed country like ours. Some people like kyle sheridan are born with a silver spoon and trust fund. Others are not as lucky. As we develop we should find ways to help the poor and take care of our citizens. We must stop being rude and head forward towards solving our social issues before we can trluy promote a vision of a peaceful world.
