Armageddon

Read the ( 3 ) stories below and offer a thoughtful reflection.

Recently, numerous "signs" have been appearing in the US and abroad that seem to point to Armageddon/the end of the world. Can these events be explained, or should we look closer at these "signs" as a warning of things to come? Should we heed the predictions of Nostradamus's 2012 and The Bible's- Revelations Seven Signs of Armageddon? Or has Hollywood exploited these predictions and fueled our fears?

I think this is somewhat of a fluke and coincidence. I understand that it is VERY strange for all of those birds to have died at once but there can be explanations. I think this is just a way for people to get excited and start talking about the idea of the world coming to an end. We all know that people need things to keep us busy. We get bored easily. But we don't have all of the facts so I think for right now people need to come off of this end of the world kick.

There's perfectly logical explanations given for both of these events- disease for the fish, and residential fireworks prompting the birds into blind flight. To suggest that this is a sign of armageddon seems a little dramatic to me. Just because the Mayans didn't have enough stone to finish their calendar doesn't mean that the end of the world is nigh. Of course, we're gonna keep hearing about this because retailers get to sell shirts, and lazy journalists at CNN get to drum up pointless stories by giving them unrealistic and unfounded implications. Everyone needs to calm down, and unless Sarah Palin gets elected around then, nothing bad will happen in late 2012.

I do not believe in the "end of the world" in 2012. I think this because before they said it was going to end, like when it hit the millennium. I think people are just making this more than what it actually is. Yes, the birds died but you don't have any background on them. I believe that Hollywood exploited the predictions of this happening.

I think both these incidents are just a coincidence. People like to get worked up over the smallest things and create all this drama for no reason. There are many explanations for both of these occurences and scientists are working on studies to see what went wrong. I think everyone needs to calm down with the whole world is ending stuff. Its not going to happen and what happened with the animals arent signs.

Stories like this always come up and somehow, we always seem to be okay! In eigth gradem we learned about how an asteroid was heading straight for earth and was going to kill us. Somehow we survived. Now we hear all of these types of things. The explanations for them are very believable! I am usually not skeptic about many things in this world, but somehow I can't wrap my head around the thought of the whole world coming to an end! Although this is the wrong attitude for other areas of life, when it comes to topics like this, I prefer to not even know about it and hope it just blows over. Luckily, it always does.

I honestly think that the whole idea of Armageddon and the world ending in 2012 is pretty stupid. If we truly thought that the world was going to end in 2012, we wouldnt be just sitting around talking about it. The birds falling out of the sky were weird, but I dont think that it is a "sign" of any sort. We have ab explanation for it so i dont see why it would mean anything else. Unless we can find proof that there is some form of a hint that could show the world ending, I think we need to stop worrying and looking for odd coincidences to explain it.

Since when does birds and fish dieing mean the end of the world? I think people are just getting way to paranoid about this 2012 thing, and the media is simply taking advantage of it. I honestly dont care what the hell the Mayans have to say about the end of the world, they also brutaly sacraficed people in order to keep the sun moving through the sky. Whoever hears birds and fish are dieing and imediatley decides they should build a bomb shelter to prepare for Armegeddon is completely insane.

I think that viewing the dead birds as a sign of Armageddon is ridiculous. The bird problem was most likely related to pollution because we all know there is plenty of pollution in America. People who think that the world is ending on Dec 21st, 2012 are going to feel pretty stupid on December 22nd and even more stupid in 2013. As far as the end of the world goes, the Bible says that no one knows when the end of the world will come-that's what most Christians believe at least. Hollywood makes movies like 2012 to draw in curious audiences. People should stop worrying because they'll live in such fear of the end of the world that they won't live life at all.

I personally do not believe in the idea of Armageddon or an end to the world anytime soon. I think the theory that the world is going to end in 2012 is a completely false statement with little to no justification. Both the thousands of birds falling from the sky and the hundreds of thousands of fish dying in the water have logical explanations. As a result of the New Year’s celebration, it is believed that firework stunned the birds and caused them to fall from the sky. It is also expected that a disease is responsible for the fish deaths in the Arkansas River. I don’t think that under any circumstances these events should be looked at as a “sign of things to come.” Hollywood has exploited an end to the world in 2012, and as a result of this has stirred up a false sense of fear in many Americans regarding Armageddon.

The so called recent "signs" of the apocalypse are being overdramatized by the media. There are sufficient explanations for each event. It is just coincidental that all of these events occurred at the same time. I think that this 2012 "End of the World" theory is a big hoax to encourage consumption in these hard economic times. By promoting these events, some may become worried about what will happen in 2012. Instead of saving all of their income, some may choose to consume more in case of Armageddon.

I think this whole thing is just a coincidence. There are a lot of possible reasons for these birds dying. There could of been a wheather problem or a poisoning issue. I think people are just getting ahead of themselves because we are close to the '2012' year, the day the world is supposed to come to an end. I think Hollywood had fueled everybodies minds into thinking in the worst. Everything seems to have a sign now, because of all these scary horror movies people cant stop thinking about it.

I think that these events are nothing to look into. I agree that Hollywood has exploited these predictions and fueled our fears because they make money off of our stupidity and the fact that people are gullible. Also us people think it's plain old fun believing in these sort of "signs" like the movie 2012 will be reenacted. Oh and at this very moment the Chinese are crafting immense "ark" like boats...

I believe that it's ridiculous that people actually believe that the world is going to end just because humans said it was going to. these "signs" are just acts of nature. it just doesn't make sense to think that just because a couple of birds fall from the sky and fish wind up on the shores that the rest of the world is going to end along with it.

I never really believed in the prediction of the world ending and tho whole 2012 situation. Although I still feel that way, the dying of a flock of birds and schools of fish really got me thinking. If the world does end, it isn't going to end in just a second; things have to start going wrong first. The spontaneous dying of fish and birds could possibly be the end. I still don't believe in the apocolype, however. I do believe though, that the world has to end eventually. I think I'm sort of back and forth about this situation/

I personally think everyone just gets over dramatic and annoying when the topic of "the end of the world" arises. When you were little and your parents said if someone slaps you on the back while your eyes are crossed did you believe them? No, because common sense has to come into play and you need to be rational and realize that no one can predict these things. I'm sure there are very rational reasons as to why large amounts of birds and fish are dieing and that "the end of the world" isnt that reason.

I do not believe that these two events are in any way related to the end of the world. The fish die off was caused by a disease and the birds falling from the sky were caused by fireworks. I do not believe in the world ending in 2012. It is just an idea that someone came up with when they realised the mayans stopped their calendar at 2012. If you look at our calendars we get a new one ever year. Doesnt mean that the world is going to end when my 2011 calendar is done. It is simply a rumor that has been going around. It makes for good news when strange things such as these occur. A one day story of all birds falling out of the sky can now be dragged on because "the world is ending". Personally I think that the world is going to be around long after 2012. If people want to believe its going to end, all the power to them but, they may be disappointed when it passes and we are all still here, living just as we are in 2011.

I honestly don't believe that the world is going to end in 2012. I do find it very strange that these birds and fish died, but i just think that it is just very coincidental. There are other reasons for these events to be happening. Everyone really just has to calm down and stop thinking about it. Everything just gets blown out of proportion, like the movie 2012 for an example, i highly doubt this event is ever going to happen. The world was also going to end in 2000, and obviously that didn't happen. If the mayans were so smart they would still be around, so why are we afraid that since their calendar ends in 2012, that the world is going to end?

I believe that all of this means nothing. The signs from the past that signify a destructive end to the world are meaningless. They have to be a coincidence. I don't think there is a way the Mayan calender can determine when our world will end. These coincidences are very intriguing and interesting, but they are definitely false. Kenny Anello

Not to sound too heavily opinionated, but I think this "world ending in 2012" is completely ridiculous and anyone who believes it is true is naive and lacking some serious logic. I think that birds dying is completely irrelevant and in no such way a symbol of the end of the world. What is the end of the world, anyway? When the world just disintegrates? When the entire human race just collapses? When all forms of life just vanish? Those who think that the tragedies that have taken place in recent times are indications of the world coming to an end are simply being too superstitious and are just looking for something to believe in. This is all just because of some ancient theory. The world as we know it has yet to exist in a time without tragedies. Natural disasters, wars, and negativities of other sorts are a part of life, and if it wasn't Hurricane Katrina, 911, or this so-called bird plague, there would be other tragedies "indicating" to the idiots out there that the world is soon coming to an end.

This is crazy... Stuff like this really makes you think. Yes, "SIGN OF THE ARMAGEDDON" may seem over dramatic, but maybe... just maybe it's just a sign. It's understandable that we get bored easily and we need something to entertain us, but even though we don't have all the evidence, we have historical evidence/ stories from different cultures and religions saying that there will be an end to the world. I know that there are more logical explanations to the massive death of these animals, and it's being a sign of the end of the world isn't likely, but it is very interesting to think about and take into consideration...

I do not believe the world is ending or will end in 2012. I believe these strange events is our world trying to tell us it needs help. Global warming is a serious probelm and will defiantly hurt us in trh future if we don't do something about it now. Birds dieing do not at all mean that the world is going to end in 2012 and who ever believes that is crazy. People believe crazy things now-a-days.

This is definitely a freak incident that doesn't happen everyday. I mean thousands of birds and fish dying, it must be Armageddon! Everybody knows that death of fish plus death of birds equals the end of the world. I mean come on people it's a common equation that everyone knows.
All this talk about the end of the world is bologna! Everybody thinks, "uh oh, animals are dying without a cause, we're next!" No! There is a simple explanation for the animals dying. Since when does birds and fish dying mean the end of the world? Who stated that fact? I think people are over reacting and trying to make up stories in order to try and prove a made up theory. The world is not going to end. The theory is stupid and not likely. People need to stop worrying about the end of the world because stories like these are a waste of time.

I don't believe in the end of the world in 2012, but it's more likely the end of the human race as we know it. There have been many worldwide catastrophes in our past that leave only the "most fit" to survive and cause evolution of our race. The Mayans did not think of the end of the world as we know it on the Winter Solstice themselves, but they were told of this day to come by an extra terrestrial force. No theories given for the recent mass deaths of these animals logically make sense. There's nothing on this earth within our power, natural or manmade that could kill that many birds in one swipe. Armageddon is absolutely real and whether it happens on that day or not I don't know, but there will be a signifigant change on that day for sure.

Nostradamus has predicted the fall of mankind. And its inevitable. The world is going to end at some point it HAS too. Acording to the second law of Thermodynamics, the universe will eventually reach maximum entropy, (heat will be completely evenly destributed throught it) which would mean death for any living organisms in the universe since there would not be enough heat energy in one place to survive (I watch a lot of history channel). So whether or not the world is going is end is without question; yes it will. But when is a different story. I do not think that a large number of birds dieing ties in at all with the end of the world. Unless aliens have seen the movie "War Of the Worlds" and know that they must destroy all bird life before mounting an assault on Earth... But seriously, strange things happen in the world all the time. The strangest of which is how we are even alive given the incredable odds against life on planets. I think that further research of the birds will yeild an answer to our "Armageddon" dilemma. Hopefully it will be an answer which delays our world's end.
