4. Obama becomes president- We all hoped on the "hope" train and witnessed history in front of our eyes, the first black president.

10. July 21st 2007, The final of 7 Harry Potters books was released. Indeed I am a die hard Harry Potter fan, but the release of this book began the end of an obsession. Our culture became obsessed with wizards when J.K Rowling released her first harry potter novel. Currently, the world is obsessed with Vampires, and gothic romanticisim, but this event is important because it heavily impacted culture.

9. Feb.1 2003- Space shuttle Columbia blew up on reentry after a successful 16 day mission. Among the dead was the first Israeli astronaut. This was a major devistation in history and science.

8. Obsession with healthy. The media portrays that people are not healthy and it is because of fast food but there is a huge obsession with being healthy and fit and skinny. Healthy is importnant, but the world is eitehr too fat or too thin, because no one knows how to properly take care of themslves.

7. Death of icons: Rosa Park, Micheal Jackson, Reagan, Ledger, Murphy, Fauset

6. Flip flops to the white house--> WHat is our generation coming to when they don't know how to dress

5. Generation ME! LAZY GOOD FOR NOTHING INDIVIDUALS! MILLENIALS are taking over.

4. TECHNOLOGY and individuals dependence on it. It makes it easier but it is impariing communication, personal, and social skills.

3. The Blackout on Aug 10th 2003. There was a serious power outage in Ohio that lead to a larger one across the entire northeast. This was significant because it scared the world: despite the hardship there was very little civil disruptions as New Yorkers and other people of region worked to help each other. Perhaps if we have another blackout people will be able to learn to live without technology

2. Hurricane Katrina. Many people forget about this event that heavily impacted New Orleans. This was when the world began to think about other people more than ever. To this day, relief is still being given, and relief is still needed.

1. September 11th 2001. 9/11 sparked a war, a recession, a change in political figure, a change in the way other people are viewed, a change in the way we, as Americans live. This was by far the most significant happening in this decade.

3. Iraq War - Hey, this helps get #10 on the list!
4. Recession - Ebb and flow? Maybe.
5. Hurricane Katrina - What a terribly nice name for such an evil storm.
6. North Korea goes nuclear -
get down!
7. NATO admits Slovakia - Woooooo!
8. Fidel Castro gets a tummy ache - The communist leader steps down. Broham takes over.
9. Pope John Paul II
10 $12.2 trillion national debt- Yay for setting records!

It seems that a lot of bad things happened this decade, but at the end of the day we have to remember that Hannah Montana...nooooooo!

How can one even hope to take an full decade into account when so much has happened. I mean hell, most of us can account for every event that happened to us in the past year. Well, I'll give it a try; however I'm sure there are many things that all of us will miss in our list, that we will remember someday want to add to these lists.

10. Obama Presidency- I know that this is low on my list and many people will disagree, but this was not as big of a deal as everyone says it is. First of all he is not the first black president. He is our first mixed-racial president. And even if was 100% black that still doesn't mean racisim has come to an end. When racism has been destroyed that is going as number 1 on my top tenm list of all time.

9. Large Scale Distrobution of Solar Panels and other renewable energy sources- paving a way for our future.

8. I'm sorry, but I'm going to have skip a few because I'm not going to ramble on about celebrities and it is very difficult to take a full year in to account on short notice. I'm skipping to 2 & 1.

2. 9/11- An day that will be remembered for the whole of American history. It has changered the face of our culture.

1. The War on terror- This is the single most important event of this decade because it will never end. While a nation can defeat another nation. A nation can not destroy an idea. And that is what were trying to do. There will be no end to the war and will effect America until America no longer exists.

10. Modern Day Cell Phones: made the information era we live in today because people can find out so much info in a few minutes with a little device that is constantly around them.
9. Tiger Woods cheats on his wife and makes people think twice about who is really a good person.
8. Miracle on the Hudson: hundreds of people survive a plane crash thanks to a pilot who quickly became a hero.
7. Huricane Katrina: thousands of people face danger and are homeless due to the huricane which forced them to flee their homes and FEMA does a poor job of helping out.
6. George Bush: somehow he was allowed to run this country for EIGHT terrible years. Probably the biggest mistake of a president.
5. Finding of Water on the Moon: not too many people are aware that we have discovered water on the Moon, which can provide for longer journeys into space.
4. Swine Flu- becomes a huge epidemic even though it killed less people than the seasonal flu. People overreacted to this flu way too much.
3. Virgina Tech Shooting: one of the most tramatic shootings since columbine
2. President Obama: our first black president and changes history forever
1. 9/11: I doubt any will every forget where they were when they heard the terrible news of 9/11. It increased security every where and patriotism across america.

It is difficult to list the Top 10 Most Notable Happenings of the decade since there have been many.

1) September 11th- Nobody will ever forget this day. Many loved ones lost their life and everyone's view on America changed. We witness tighter security especially in airports. We actually needed to take off our shoes for security and we weren't allowed to bring water on a plane.

9) Tiger Woods scandal- it has made Americans look at the lives of athletes differently
10) White House Crashers- this shows that there really isn't that much security present anywhere. It also shows how anyone can enter the White House and potentially do something horrific.

In no particular order:

9/11 and the rise of terrorism worldwide: the world is a more dangerous place, no matter which country you're in.

Hurricane Katrina: made us realize that humans aren't so powerful after all, and that we need to get FEMA together.

Tsunami: a terrible tragedy.

Worldwide Recession: kind of a problem...we need to stop spending money we don't have.

Virginia Tech: a terrible tragedy.

2000 Presidential Election: Al Gore should have won.

Obama: not the best president ever, didn't deserve that nobel prize... but still made history.

"Going Green" : really? Only if by green, you mean money, because that's all we care about. We need to step up our environmental actions. "Only when the last tree has been cut down, only when the last river has been poisoned, only when the last fish is caught will we realize we can't eat money."

Dependance on technology: Facebook and Youtube are our best friends, people are better able to express themselves through a :) than by actually smiling.

We survive Y2K: enabling us to continue/develop this dependance on technology
