Advances in technology have become some what of a burden in today's society. In the moment technology is very helpful, for example if there is an emergency it is very helpful to have a cell phone, and if your lost it can be helpful to have GPS to find your way. But long term technology can be considered a burden, like GPS you never really have to think for yourself and you don't need to have a sense of direction. If there was ever a collapse in technology i dont think that people would know. I don't see a reason why texting in school would be a problem unless people are cheating on a test; even then people can cheat on a test with out texting. Texting is better than talking on the phone because you aren't disrupting anyone except who you are texting. And as for people don't pay attention in class because they are texting, doesn't make much sense either because people talk in class to each other. If anything testing is less disruptive because you aren't talking. I could how ever see that texting in the work place could cause problems if you are dealing with customers becuase it could affect your work and you might not give your full attention to the customer. If you have a destk job as a receptionist i dont see whyy it is a problem becasue all you are doing is answering phones and filing papers etc. so it doesn't really have an affect on your job.
Technolgy is important in our society because it has helped our society advance. With technology people can comminucate better and get work done faster. People should be allowed to text message freely at school because some people can text message and pay attention and if they don't pay attention it is ther choice. They shouldn't be allowed to text at work because they are getting payed to do something.
Technology really hasnt become a burden in society today. It is helping us alot more then it is hurting us in many ways. If it wasnt for the technology we have today many things wouldnt get done as fast efficient as they are today. I also believe that people should be allowed to text at school but only if your not in class. Its not hurting people at all if your texting in the halls or at lunch. Taking it away just makes people want to do it more often.
Oops... If there was a collapse in technology i dont think people would know what to do
Advanced technology a burden to society? Technology was/is created to make people's lives easier and more convenient. Yes, there are still some kinks with new technology such as identity theft, but slight problems always occur with new things. Just look around school, with smart boards, computers, and graphing calculators, technology is reforming our society for the better. Now texting is another issue, but if I’m not going to pay attention in class then I’m just not going to pay attention, so why can’t I just text?
Technology for the most part is used to make our lives easier but it does also in some cases make other things harder. For example it you needed to write a paper for a class normally you could just write it and it would be fine but with technology now you need to know how to use a computer, how to type , use the programs, and of course print it. On the other hand it is still somehow easier to do it that way. I feel that technology is helping society because it helps save peoples lives with breakthroughs in medicine and preventing conditions. I also think that it might not be a good idea to text message people during class because then you are distracted and don’t learn, but it is silly to tell them that you can’t do it at lunch to stay in contact with someone.
Technology has helped out the world in many ways but one way it has hindered the people is that it has made everyone dependent on technology for many different tasks. People should be able to text message in school, just not during tests or quizzes. People shouldn't be able to text during work because they are being paid to be there and should be concentrating on the work that needs to get done.
Advances in technology as a whole has made society lazy and made us never want to rely on our brains to do anything. All I hear my parents say is "When I was your age, I would be outside at the crack of dawn and wouldn't come home until dinner...We never had iPods or cell phones or computers." Although, it can be very helpful and useful in many ways.
Texting should be allowed in school if you are in lunch or study hall. Texting during class is distracting.
I believe that new advances in technology have become a burden in today's society in the way that we have become almost too dependent on it to survive in our everyday lives. If you think of all the things we use everyday that we really do not need but convince ourselves that we require it to survive normally, like television or cell phones. Some can even argue that these things make us as a society collectively lazier and less intelligent than before the technology. For example a large majority of younger kids no longer know how to look things up in a book or a library because they have become so accustomed to looking them up on the internet instead. In some ways technology is helping us as a society yet in many it still hurts us. I don't believe people should be allowed to text message freely in school or work because theres a reason you are at these places, to get a job done and if text messaging gets in the way of you doing your job then it should not be allowed.
technology is good for society in some aspects but overrall it is really hurting us. Obesity rates have gone through the roof and now intead of waiting till the last minute like I usually do to do my homework I have to get in on time because its timestamped like this blog. I think things like myspace and stuff lime that keep people from getting to know and love the world around them and actually talk to people instead of hiding behind computer screens and not to mention wastes of money like smartboards.what's the point of those do they really help us learn more?NO we will learn the same stuff with a regular old chalkboard.
Think of life without the internet, tv, phone, radio, computers and all of that good stuff. Now think of how limited your job or whatever you do during your day would be without those items. I think saying that technology is becoming a burden would be an overstatement. So much has come out of it and so much is still out there to discover. As for text messaging in class, of coarse I don't mind it as a student. I think as a teacher I would have the same feelings. I would just want my students to be respectful when texting, like when I am talking to them one on one, or during a test. I have texted numerous amounts of times during lessons and still have done very well on exams and in the class overall.
Though advances in technology have provided us with modern conveniences, and medical advances have certainly been beneficial, I think that technology has become more of a harm to us. Economically, advances in technology have contributed to corporate greed and countless other unethical practices. Also, new technologies usually require a large amount of resources to be consumed. In order for many items to be produced, a lot of pollution and waste of natural resources occurrs. In a society that is often careless and too concerned about material things, overconsumption has become a huge problem. The desire for infinite technological advancements has triggered most of these issues in today's society.
I think that technology has generally helped. I mean, with good comes bad. It's good because it makes life a lot easier. For example, if there wasn't technology, teachers wouldn't be able to put up blogs for their students to answer. Also websites like turnitin.com wouldn't be in exsistence. Then you have to look at the negative, because of technology we have been forced to change our every day lives. We have lost our sense of direction and basic skills with the use of GPS systems, calculators and spell check. Overall though, these minor setbacks are nothing compared to how much better my life has been with technology. As for texting, I don't see any problems with it. To bring up another point, I don't see a problem with iPods either as long as they aren't blasting and disrupting other people. If I am in lunch or study hall who does it hurt if I text someone or listen to my music. With texting, most teachers say, well then you must be disrupting other people that should be paying attention in class. For that I say bull! Most of the time I text my mom or trainer... and if I'm right they aren't supposed to be in class! As for texting people that are in class, it's their choice whether or not to answer/look at the text, and if they would like to respond or not. If someone is bored with the class or doesn't want to pay attention that's their progative. It's their own decision, and honestly I would rather have someone texting next to me than talking out loud with the people around them. Texting is discreet and would actually be something that could be a positive in the classroom. I hate when I am trying to focus and hear the teacher with annoying kids talking around me. If they were texting I would be able to hear, focus, and learn. What's the difference between someone doodling on a notebook, texting, or doing another classes homework. To me there are much worse things going on in this school than the kids who are texting. Im my opinion they took away open campus, cell phones, and iPods...what's next?
I think technology has become a burden to todays society because it causes people who don't know how to use it to stress out, and the people who do know how to use it to be overly obsessed with what's happening every second and to try to change things that are about to happen. It just makes things complicated. For example, cell phones cause car accidents for silly reasons like not waiting five seconds to answer that text message about what was going on tomorrow night. People just need to focus and live for the moment and not try to shape and order their every move. I think there are benefits to technology like stem cell research and educational purposes but hurting us by making us to laxy to do things for ourselves or invest money on silly things that are unnessesary like smart boards. I think people should be aloud to text message at school because if their on a free period or in the halls, it's their time to spend how they want to. Work is a little bit more controversial though, you're working for money so you should be doing your job, not texting.
Technology is and will always be needed to better our society as a whole. In order to advance in this day in age, we need technology. It is a must; and can't hurt us but only better us. Now texting in class, from the viewpoint of a high schooler should be allowed. In reality, maybe not. For now, I think its ok if it doesn't bother other students.
Advances in technology have become a bit of a burden in the fact that everyone feels that they "have" to have the top of the line technology and that it is a way of ranking people and how successful they are. on the other hand I dont feel it is a burden but that it is helpful. without cell phones no one would be able to communicate really especially in the case of an emergency. I think that texting in class shouldnt be a problem. I think that it is your education and it is your choice if you dont want to pay attention or not. As long as youre not disrupting others in class then I dont think it should be a problem.
advances in technology has helped society in the long run, i mean with out it yeah we wouldne have greater carbon admissions from cars but then again we wouldnt have most of the medical technology that im sure has helped save millions. I understand why texting is banned in shcool and even in the cafeteria but i honestly dont understand why sending a text in between periods should be scolded, i mean you cant help someone cheat cuz, its between periods.
Although there are many cons about technology, the advantages surpass the negative. Technology has a great impact on education and health. Also technology has helped us on great discoveries in science. I believe we should be able to text during school and during lunch because students need to have contacts with parents and other friends during the day.
Advances in technology have been very helpful for humans in general. However in our country they have also have had negitive effects. One negitive effect is that they made our country more materialistic than it already was. People are always trying to aquire the latest technology, and not concerned with more important things.
Overall, technology is extremely beneficial for our society. Our day to day life is easier, and we have made great improvements through technology. Technology does have its downsides though. People have become lazy, and techonology is being used for many bad things too. I do not think texting should be allowed in class. I think it is rude to the teacher and everyone around you. However, I do not understand why texting in the hallways in between classes should be a problem. I think you should be able to text in work as long as you are not with a customer and you are getting what you need to get done, done.
I do not find advances in technology to burden most, if not all people. Advancements in technology are not just new and improved cell phones or computers. Technology is a main component of the study of medicine and has, and will continue to help cure ailments and diseases that were once considered fatal. Perhaps the only burden caused by technology is to professors and school officials, since having an iPod or cell phone in view during school hours has become the most deadly sin of them all :)
I do not beleive advances in technology have become a burden in today's society. In fact, I beleive the advances are actually helping society. Specifically, technology has helped us by allowing us to communicate with one another much faster. However, I beleive the technological advances have given humans numerous ways to avoid actual human interaction. People would rather text, instant message, or e-mail someone then to have an actual face to face conversation. Although we do not feel the effects of this now, I beleive we will in years to come. Also, as much I would love to be able to text in school, I can easily see why it is not allowed. It can be very distracting to the students.
People should have the freedom to decide how they want technology to affect them. In my opinion it's not fair to argue that technology is a burden on society. Solely due to the fact that using technology is tottally up to each individual person. The Amish don't use technology, and anyone can live life like them. In the other end of the spectrum those who choose to use technology benefit for them.
I beleive that technology can be considered a burden to the younger people of our generation. For young adults and teenagers, i beleive that technology has recently been a negative influence. Text messaging is the newest form of technology that is extremely popular between young tenenagers. I believe that texting is a major distraction to education. Texting gives kids a form of communication no matter where they are and what their doing. It is also a new way for kids to get involved with drama. Another form of technology that is a negative influence on kids is instant messaging. Instant messaging causes kids to feel as if they can say whatever they want to whom ever they want because they do not have to confront anyone in person. This causes many problems and is a distraction to many kids who choose to become involved.
Technology is extremely important to our society and has made life easier and well advanced, but there are many examples I can give that can prove how technology is also hurting us. We have so many different items that can do anything and everything for us that we are becoming more and more lazy as a whole. Cars, planes, trains, buses, boats, all are very convenient yes, but they are also making us lazy and fat and polluting our planet a great amount. GPS systems, calculators, computers, internet- nobody has to think for themselves anymore, we have machines to do everything for us. Who knows if our kids will ever learn how to read a map and do math in their head. This could be a serious problem, what if their technology breaks down and they are lost. I almost feel like sooner or later these computers and robots are going to begin taking control of us! I think there is a time and place for everything and people must use their moral thoughts when it comes to texting. Many people can be extremely rude about it, texting at the dinner table=wrong, texting while someone is trying to talk to you=wrong. However I feel it is ones moral decision to choose when and where they feel it is necessary. If you text on the job or in school you will be looked down upon as rude and not very hardworking, but if you spent your money on the item and you find it necessary, then go ahead, text away. I feel it shouldn't be allowed while an authority figure is speaking, if you are doing individual work then that is fine, but I just don't find it necessary unless you have an important phone call to make or information to get through to someone, nottt the latest drama.
